Historic Hadrian’s Wall, the unspoilt wilderness of Northumberland National Park and the stunning Northumbrian Coast are some of the local attractions which are helping to increase the popularity of Northumberland with visitors.
2018 was a fantastic year for visitor numbers to Northumberland and for recognition of the fantastic place it is to visit. In March, Northumberland National Park won the prestigious accolade of National Park of The Year in the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2018. This was followed at the end of November by Northumberland winning gold for the first time and being awarded Best UK Holiday Destination at the 2018 British Travel Awards, having come second for the previous four years.
Voting for the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2019 is now open until Friday 18th February, and Hadrian’s Wall has been shortlisted for Britain’s Best Landmark. This historic Northumbrian landmark is up against Dunluce Castle in Antrim, Huer’s Hut in Cornwall, Nine Standards Rigg in Cumbria and Pakenham Water Mill in Suffolk.
