Fleet Maintenance Technician – from one to five days per week to fit your lifestyle

Ecocabs operates an established taxi and transport company in Hexham and surrounding areas. We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic vehicle technician to join our team in our purpose-built workshop.
If you have the right skills, you could work anything from one day a week to full time.
This key role takes care of our fleet of hybrid, fully electric, and diesel powered vehicles plus our trailers and bike carriers. You’ll work closely with our transport operations staff.
The vast majority of our maintenance is done in-house – allowing us to further our commitments to our sustainable values. Your work in the vehicle maintenance department will help us to further reduce our impact on the environment.
Key Responsibilities
⁃ Undertake comprehensive and post preventative maintenance and repairs to high
standards
⁃ Carry out basic maintenance, servicing and repair work to all vehicles in our fleet
⁃ Correct fault diagnosis of basic problems and to ensure replacement parts are fitted
correctly
⁃ Working within safe systems of work and ensuring that quality and performance are
maintained at all times
⁃ Proficiently dealing with all invoices for parts, and job cards for work carried out,
whilst liaising with our office team to provide maximum efficiency
⁃ Working on all vehicles within the fleet to minimise downtime and maximise safety to
our customers
⁃ All work will be scheduled wherever possible, but a flexible approach to problems or
breakdowns is required to due nature of our business
⁃ Occasional basic maintenance and repairs of commercial properties and yards,
(painting, cleaning)
⁃ To keep the workspace clean and tidy at all times
⁃ Ordering of parts, consumables etc, and keeping records of all maintenance expenses
Day to Day
Most of the work to be carried out will be scheduled in advance to make all aspects of
fleet maintenance as efficient as possible.
Typical duties on a day-to-day basis:
⁃ Vehicle servicing
⁃ Brake pads/discs changes
⁃ Exhaust changes
⁃ Tyre puncture repairs and tyre replacement and balancing
⁃ Bulb replacements
⁃ Wiper blade replacements
⁃ Checking and topping up of levels and tyre pressures
⁃ Battery replacement
⁃ Jump starts
⁃ Basic safety inspections of vehicles
⁃ Trailer maintenance, repairs, and inspections
⁃ Pre MOT checks and inspections
⁃ Cleaning and tidying of the workspace
⁃ Occasional car/minibus cleaning and valeting
⁃ Assisting drivers with any maintenance or inspection related problems
Candidate Expectations
⁃ Applicants should be suitably qualified and have experience in light vehicle
maintenance, and be comfortable working alone on cars, minibuses, mini coaches,
trailers and bike carriers, to carry out basic maintenance and repairs
⁃ Be safety aware and committed to a right first time ethos
⁃ Enthusiastic, with the ability to work using your own initiative, and remain consistent
and self motivated with a ‘can do’ attitude to work
⁃ Happy to work alone a lot of the time
⁃ A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, with good knowledge of modern
vehicle technologies
⁃ Full UK driving license (preferred)
⁃ Organised and efficient with good attention to details
