Great Northumberland Launch in Hexham

From 7th July to 1st September, Great Northumberland events are being held across the county. Fifty six days of summer fun have been planned, and it won’t cost a penny if you want to participate in any or all of them.Hexham, UK

The County Council has organised these events to showcase the best the county has to offer in the way of arts, heritage, creativity and innovation. The launch is set to take place in Hexham and there are many other venues where you can enjoy special family activities. They include:

What is Great Northumberland All About?

This eight-week long series of events has been planned to coincide with the Great Exhibition of the North that is taking place in Gateshead and Newcastle. The idea behind the celebrations is to showcase all that the county has to offer and encourage more visitors and residents to explore the area. There will be a mix of heritage events, live performances, exhibitions and commissions. All are welcome, and events are free.

Launch Day Events

Located near Corbridge, Hexham is the location for the launch that will provide people with a snapshot of what is going to be available over the following weeks. Celebrations start at 1pm in the Abbey Grounds and The Sele. Outdoor arts company Walk the Plank are putting on a performance together with various musicians in the newly-restored bandstand. From 1.30pm until 2.30pm you will be able to experience small snippets of what is to come, with many representatives coming together to showcase their own upcoming events. When this is all over there is going to be a public ceilidh led by The Village Band.

July 21 – 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Northern Poetry Library in Morpeth

July 22 – A celebration of traditional Northumbrian music and dance in Alnwick Garden

August 11 – Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour 2018

August 12 – Alnwick Alive includes music, song and dance on the Market Place

August 13 – Kielder Night Safari is your chance to join the hunt for night life in the forest

August 25 – HMS Pinafore is being performed as part of Berwick Festival Opera

September 1 – The Great Song of the North. In front of the Berwick Guildhall will be a community choir and drummers performing a range of traditional songs and a newly commissioned celebratory fanfare.
